The rich countries boast the largest number of the biggest multinational corporations (MNCs), like Apple, McDonald's and IKEA. These MNCs have operations overseas, where operation costs are lower, to jack up their profits and then remit back the lion's share of that, leaving the assembly line workers in developing countries with only crumbs.
Another two berths, each with a 225,000-ton capacity, are close to being completed on Phoenix Island, according to local officials. The construction is a testament to Hainan's ambition to turn Sanya into an Asian Miami, on par with Miami, Florida, in the United States, which is known as the cruise capital of the world.
It will take the lead in dealing with foreigners who enter illegally and will repatriate illegal immigrants. It will also offer exit and entry management services for Chinese citizens on private affairs and actively engage in international cooperation involving immigration, the ministry said.
"My female models attracted lots of onlookers during class and I was often asked when the course would be opened to men," she said. "This is how I got the adventurous idea to offer it for both genders."
"Thirty years ago, it took a full day to reach Haikou from Sanya, which lies at the southern tip of the island, but now it takes less than two hours by high speed train, and there are other choices," said Hua Zetian, a rice-breeding expert who has worked in Hainan for 30 years.
Researchers estimate that the cave site was created between the late Neolithic age and the Bronze age.
Liu said the two sides should continue to promote exchanges, enforce the 31 agreed measures to boost cross-Straits cultural and economic cooperation.
